Newly appointed Brazil manager Mano Menezes called up several uncapped players for the team which will play a friendly match against the USA on the 10th of August. Benfica’s highly talented commanding centre back, David Luiz, is delighted with his first call-up and told the press a dream came true.

David Luiz, aged 23, has enjoyed the honour of representing the Under-20 side on 24 occasions and participated in the 2007 Under-20 World Cup hosted by Canada. However, wearing the first team national strip is a completely new emotion for the player and he was not afraid to show his motivation to the Portuguese newspaper to remain in the squad by stating: “What is even harder then reaching the national team is maintaining a spot in the squad”.

Several European giants are chasing the Benfica player and several call-ups to the Brazilian national team will make it easier for him to gain a work permit to play in the Premier League. Manchester City and Real Madrid both made several offers for his services this summer but were unable to reach the €40m release fee clause.

Mano Menezes called up a young and inexperienced squad, players such as Santos’ Ganso and Neymar, Dinamo Kiev’s Andre, Corinthians’ Jucilei and Avai’s Renan could all wear the yellow shirt for the first time. Tottenham’s Sandro was selected for the second time and Manchester United’s Rafael is set to make his debut. There was also room for the world class Daniel Alves, Pato and Robinho.

The friendly against the USA will be an entertaining match complete with skill and flair, especially because many “football lovers” will be able to watch Brazil’s upcoming talented superstars perform. On a final note, don’t forget to look out for the skilled centre back with crazy curly hair. David Luiz is a solid rock at the back and never afraid to dribble past players.
