We raise our glasses! We put on our glasses! XI Quarterly has arrived.
While we’re as excited as Steven Gerrard when he hears a Phil Collins song, it can hardly be contained with a paragraph of prose. So let us just say this: After raising $XI,000 in its Kickstarter campaign and carefully editing a series of essays from some of the best sports writers in the world, XI Quarterly, a North American soccer quarterly, is finally here. Not only does our own Elizabeth Cotignola write about her beloved Montreal Impact in the inaugural issue, but…
- Each issue investigates a single aspect of the culture of soccer in eleven eclectic and thoughtful ways.
- This includes long-form essays, interviews, photography, graphic arts and other forms helping tell the unique story of soccer in North America. XI is released four times a year (by the way, here’s the link to subscribe)
- The inaugural issue of XI, Coming to America, explores how immigration has and continues to shape soccer across the continent
About 8 months ago, I spoke with XI Quarterly (and Pitch Invasion) founder Tom Dunmore. While the idea behind XI may have been present, there was a long road that led to this 100+ page publication, which I have been lucky enough to flip through already. We’re delighted to welcome XI, and we hope that - if interested in reading superb stories - you help sustain this publication.
Oh! One more thing: We have two copies of the first edition of XI to give away! Send your prediction for tonight’s United States - Jamaica World Cup qualifier (include goalscorers) to contact@afootballreport.com, or tweet it at us @afootballreport.
