Zlatan Ibrahimovic was ecstatic in Catalunya today, and he claimed he is the ‘happiest man in the world’ to join Barcelona from Inter Milan.
In a Galactico-esque deal, Barcelona will acquire Ibrahimovic for a reported €46m euros. Inter will also acquire Samuel Eto’o from Barcelona, who is valued at €20m euros in the deal. The Swedish striker passed his medical earlier on Monday, and will wear the number 9 kit next season.
Zlatan revealed that he has been thinking about joining Barcelona for six months, saying, “the more I saw Barcelona play, the more I wanted to leave [Milan].”
While Ibra passed his medical, he will be on the sidelines for a few weeks after a medical examination revealed he fractured his hand during the World Football Challenge friendly with Chelsea.
He added, “I was fed up of Italy, of Milan, of your football: you play badly, there’s too much stress. In short, I needed something else… my desire to come to Barcelona was too big to stay at Inter.”
Many football fans will be surprised that Ibrahimovic was rated so much higher than Samuel Eto’o, but Zlatan stated, “I’m not coming here to be Samuel Eto’o, I’m somebody else, somebody new, but I will try to achieve as much as Eto’o, or even more.”
The Blaugrana president Joan Laporta felt the Swede’s arrival is a joyous moment for the club, and Zlatan has signed a five-year contract with the club.
“He is not a conformist, he is ambitious, a winner, an authentic man with strong feelings and he wanted to come to Barcelona… Pep (Guardiola) said that Zlatan was the ideal player for us, so we are really happy to have him here,” Laporta said of Ibra.
