Angelo Trofa regularly examines the football world through a hypothetical lens.
His fantastic football strip series blends the sporting and fashion cultures of several countries to illustrate what it might look like if football kits more fully embraced national sartorial character.
Now, Angelo has reimagined Serie A’s present, as if it was the world’s pre-eminent league in 2016, through classic Panini stickers. He explains:
“Every follower of Italian football, or even avid fans of ‘Football Italia’ from C4 in the ’90s, will have fond memories of the golden days of Serie A. The world’s best players, spread out up and down the league—‘Batigol’ and Rui Costa at Fiorentina, Crespo, Buffon, Thuram, and Cannavaro at Parma, and of course ‘Gazza’ at Lazio. This project is all about placing today’s stars in the golden days of calcio, where the best players weren’t always cast-offs from the top teams, and Brescia could beat Juve to signing Gheorghe Hagi from Real Madrid.”
From Cristiano Ronaldo at Brescia, to Messi and Lukaku representing the two halves of Milan, Angelo’s work is a wonderfully fun look at what might have been.
