Newcastle draw at home against Tottenham at an exc
Newcastle have kept their unbeaten record at the Premier League after being one goal down twice during the electric clash with Tottenham where the final score was a 2-2 draw.
Newcastle’s Alan Pardew kept the same XI from their victory at Molineux prior to the international break, whereas at Tottenham’s side, Ledley King made his 300th start for Spurs. However, he left before the first thirty minutes of the match with a groin injury.
The match started competitive between both sides, but without any major threats from neither of the teams. The first goal came at 40 minutes with a penalty goal scored by Rafael Van der Vaart, after Adebayor was tripped by Steven Taylor inside the area.
Tottenham was leading at the end of the first half. However, just eight minutes into the second period, Demba Ba scored for the home team, as he received the ball from Jonas Guttierrez who passed through Tottenham’s defence and found Demba Ba unmarked.
Therefore, after the equaliser, the match gained more momentum with both sides getting great opportunities to take the lead. Nonetheless, it was Tottenham’s Jermain Defoe, who came in as Van der Vaart’s substitute, scored for the visitors with a stunning left foot strike into the bottom corner of Tim Krul’s net, just five minutes after entering the match.
As a response to Tottenham’s goal, Newcastle’s Shola Ameobi and Hatem Ben Arfa came in as substitutes for Leon Best and scorer Demba Ba.
Both teams kept pressing forward, as the Spurs were looking to secure their advantage, whereas Newcastle’s players were desperate to reach the equalising score once again. Hence, the home team did get the last word, as at 86 minutes, Shola Ameobi netted for Newcastle with a shot from the edge of the area.
Thus, the final score was 2-2. Newcastle go on with 16 points, at the fourth position of the Premier League table, while Tottenham sit at the sixth place with 13 points.
