French League Cup: Lyon conquer hard win over Lille (2-1)

In a brave act, Lyon have qualified to the Coupe de la Ligue semi-finals, after a 2-1 hard-fought victory over current French champions Lille.

Remi Garde’s men will join Marseille, Nice and Lorient in the semi-finals of the French League Cup competition, after a stunning 2-1 victory against Lille, at the Stade de Gerland.

Lille became the immediate favourites to win the match, after Lyon’s Mouhamadou Dabo was sent off just 10 minutes into the match, and moreover when Joe Cole put the visitors in advantage with a 28th minute goal.

However, just four minutes before the end of the first-half, Kim Kallstrom reached the equalizer, as 1-1 was the scoring result at halftime.

Then, after the break, Lyon came out stronger and determined, as Lisandro Lopez gave the lead to the hosts at 65’.

The Ligue 1 champions didn’t manage to comeback from that result and failed to reach the levelling score, which cost them the elimination from the French League Cup, while Lyon are through to the semi-finals, together with Lorient who won Le Mans by 0-1, also on Wednesday evening.
