English Premier League Season 2019/2020– Round Two Predictions

The first round of English Premier League has brought a couple of surprises, a lot of goals scored by the Manchester’s duo and a narrow victory for Arsenal on the road against Newcastle. This week’s action is starting on Saturday afternoon with a duel between the Gunners and Burnley, ending with a derby match at the Etihad between the reigning champions Manchester City and Champions League finalists Tottenham Hotspur. All in all, this should be an exciting weekend! Let’s see some of the top predictions and previews.

Manchester City v Tottenham Hotspur

Pep Guardiola's scoring machine had a great season debut in London. They have faced West Ham United, a team which had a lot of troubles in the past few months. The Citizens were victorious, scoring five goals against the opposition while conceding none, showing why many experts believe this squad is once again a massive favorite to win the title. Even Jose Mourinho had a comment on this match, stating that City should use the B roster to compete in the Premier League.

It took some time to break the deadlock against the Hammers. Gabriel Jesus was the only goal scorer in the first half, taking advantage of a great cross by Kyle Walker. The second part of the match was pretty much one-man show. Raheem Sterling has scored a hat trick, with VAR disallowing his fourth goal. It was the first time the new technology was used in the Premier League by the way (Friday’s opening match between Liverpool and Norwich didn’t require the usage of VAR). Man City are currently at 2/5 odds to win the league.

As for their opponents, Tottenham Hotspur has struggled in the opening match at home against Aston Villa. Mauro Pochettino’s squad was one goal behind all until the 73rd minute. One of the most recent acquisitions Tanguy Ndombele scored the equalizer, while Harry Kane orchestrated a comeback with two late goals, just a couple of minutes before the final whistle. Overall, Spurs have dominated during the whole match, so this victory is pretty much deserved one.

The most recent head to head clash between these two teams was also played at the Etihad on 20th of April 2019. Manchester City has claimed a narrow 1-0 victory thanks to the goal scored by Philip Foden in the early stages. This win had massive importance for the title race, as it was the last hope for Liverpool’s fans to see Citizens slip and lose points. We are going with Manchester City to win and both teams to score at 8/5 price.

Chelsea FC v Leicester City

It’s never easy to lose the first official match of the new season to big rivals with big goal difference. Chelsea FC has had a rocky start to the 2019/2020 campaign, getting demolished by Manchester United last Sunday at Old Trafford 4-0. Frank Lampard’s squad did not look bad in the opening 25 minutes. On the contrary, they had a couple of great goal opportunities and controlled the midfield. Later on, we have witnessed some big mistakes from their defenders, which had a big impact on the result overall. Can the team recover and bounce back this weekend in front of the home crowd? Leicester City is a tough opponent, despite the fact they have sold one of their best players recently Harry Maguire. The Foxes have won one point in the opening match against Wolves. Expectations are high from their fans, as well as from the board. The results during the pre-season period were astonishing. Leicester City has won a lot of matches, including one big victory against Atalanta, just before the start of the Premier League. Still, bookies have marked them as the big underdogs at Stamford Bridge though. The home win is priced at 4/5, while chances for Leicester to cause second consecutive defeat to the Blues are at 4/1 according to Best betting Sites.

It is interesting to mention that Chelsea has failed to beat Leicester City when it comes to EPL games for the last three attempts. The most recent clash was at King Power Stadium on May 2019, ending without winner or goals. We are going to back the draw option here at 5/2 odds. It’s a good value bet in our opinion, but the stake shouldn’t be high.

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Manchester United

The second round is going to be wrapped up on Monday evening with a duel at Molineux Stadium between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester United. The Red Devils had a furious start against Chelsea last Sunday, so many get to ask the question if this is a start of a new era under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. There were some reports that Eric Bailly could recover from an injury and join the team for this match, but nothing got confirmed yet. Marcus Rashford is probably once again going to lead the attack, paired with Anthony Martial. Both players have scored in the opening match.

Wolves had a lot of success in lifting the form during the preparation period. Their Europa League campaign has been going smooth as well. After eliminating Crusaders with two dominant victories, Wolverhampton is also very close to the playoffs after winning the first match in Yerevan against Pyunik 4-0. The first EPL match against Leicester City was far away from brilliance, but at least they have returned home with one point, undefeated.

Wolves have always caused troubles to United in the last couple of seasons. The last two results in the Premier League between them were 1-1 at Old Trafford, while Man Utd got defeated at Molineux in April this year 2-1. Wolves also eliminated the Red Devils from FA Cup in the previous campaign. We are backing hosts with a double chance here at 7/10.
