Olimpia brings out the spirit of Copa Libertadores

Fireworks. Full stadium tifos. It was a night to remember in Asunción.

It was an atmosphere fully fit for a Copa Libertadores final. Paraguay’s Olimpia hosted Ronaldinho and Atlético Mineiro. Despite being a bit of an underdog, Olimpia were after their 4th Libertadores title. And they absolutely went for it, leaving their home ground with a 2-0 win before the final’s second leg in Belo Horizonte.

Ronaldinho was silenced, even subbed off in the 64th minute. Olimpia’s Alejandro Silva drove forward and drove past a handful of Atlético defenders before smashing a left footed shot off the post. Then Wilson Pittoni stepped up in the 94th minute a curled a beautiful free kick into the back of the net. It was a constant battle of superiority between the Olimpia players and Olimpia fans, and now Atlético need a perfect game in Brazil to revive any hopes of winning a first Libertadores title.
