Wigan x Tottenham: staying on the winning road (preview)

For Tottenham, a third consecutive win would be utterly relevant after a shaky Premier League start. For Wigan, it is a chance to stand up after doing the exact opposite to the Spurs: a good start followed by a breakdown that accounts for two defeats in a row.

However, manager Roberto Martinez had led the team to a strong cycle at the DW Stadium, where Wigan are to lose since February.

Nevertheless, Tottenham are clear favourites for the tie as they have won 46 per cent (six wins) of the fixtures against Saturday’s rivals, against Wigan’s 15 per cent (only two wins).

Gallas ready for Spurs comeback

Tottenham can finally be boosted with a William Gallas return, after a long-term absence. The Europa League fixture on Thursday will force manager Harry Redknapp to rest a few players and the Frenchman is in contention to make a start.

On the other side are Michael Dawson and Pienaar, injured, while Kranjcar and Lennon are still doubts.

Wigan are left without Hugo Rodallega, whose knee injury isn’t as serious as expected. Emmerson Boyce, Alcaraz and Gohouri are also ruled out.
