Shocked Rooney advised MU to sell the entire squad, keeping only 1 star
MU Just Found Joy Again with a 3-2 Win Over Newcas
MU Just Found Joy Again with a 3-2 Win Over Newcastle. This positive result at Old Trafford, their last home match of the season, cannot hide another disappointing season for Manchester United's fans.
Rooney Calls for a "Major Overhaul" of the Current MU Squad
Speaking on BetMentor.com after the match, Rooney said: "MU must build the team around Bruno Fernandes. He has quality and a high fighting spirit, and then I think all the other players should leave."
"I think MU should only keep the young players and Bruno Fernandes. I believe there needs to be a strong squad overhaul. It might not be done in a year, but I think it will be completed in the next few years."
When asked whether MU should retain players like Andre Onana, Diogo Dalot, and Harry Maguire, the all-time top scorer of the "Red Devils" responded: "I think Onana had an unstable start but has improved over the past year. For me, Dalot has done very well, and Maguire has had an inconsistent season."
"To compete in the Premier League, MU needs better players. Don't get me wrong, Onana, Dalot, and Maguire are all good players. But to compete with Man City, Liverpool, and Arsenal, they need better players."
Rooney was then asked about his former teammate Marcus Rashford, who has significantly dropped in form this season, scoring only 8 goals compared to 30 last season.
The former England striker said: "We all know Rashford has the ability to play at the highest level, but we haven't seen that. I just wonder if it's time for Rashford to leave MU. I think he needs to ask himself that question. I want Rashford to stay and break records at MU. He needs to work hard and give his best effort."
