Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has revealed he tried to take Gareth Bale to Real Madrid, last summer.
The Tottenham winger has been widely linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu, this summer, but the Portuguese coach claimed he failed an attempt to sign the Wales international 12 months ago.
"I asked the club to buy him last season but it was not possible," Mourinho told ESPN.
"It looks like it is happening this season so I am happy for them because they have got a fantastic player.
"But, of course, the numbers are huge numbers and the kid has to go now and there's pressure to prove that he's worth that investment."
The Madrid giants have apparently placed a £95m bid for the 24-year-old.
