Every couple of years the country usually goes mad with football fever. Ever since Italia '90 took the country by storm from nowhere, England in a major tournament has been a huge thing, not just for football fans but for industry as well.
England's failure to qualify for Euro 2008 is estimated to of cost the economy around £1.5bn. Not that I would condone an effigy of Steve McClaren to be carted around the streets of England for his woeful managerial skills, but some people have lost out on a lot of money thanks to his incompetence (and those who appointed him - what were they thinking - I mean really?)
