Who Will Replace Ange Postecoglou if Spurs Fire Him This Summer?

Uncertainty surrounds the long-term future of Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou. The 59-year-old, who assumed the helm of the North London club in 2023, has endured a turbulent spell in charge at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

After a hugely promising start to his reign, winning back-to-back Manager of the Month awards in August and September 2023, Spurs’ form declined in the latter stages of the 2023/24 campaign. Postecoglou grew increasingly irritated by the media speculation surrounding his future and his style of play.

The writing has been on the wall for some time

Postecoglou attempted to placate fans and journalists by insisting he wins trophies in his second season at clubs. The likelihood of Spurs winning the Premier League was out of the question thanks to their dire domestic form in 2024/25, losing more than half (21) of their league games. Tottenham are currently in 17th place in the table, one place above the relegation zone.

In any other scenario, Postecoglou would already have been fired, but this isn’t any ordinary moment. Postecoglou steered Spurs to the UEFA Europa League Final, where they would lock horns with Premier League rivals Manchester United and overcome them in a tense final in Bilbao.

To all intents and purposes, it feels like the Spurs hierarchy is waiting for the end of the season to give ‘Big Ange’ his marching orders. Despite bringing Tottenham’s first major trophy 2008, the consensus is that Postecoglou has burnt his bridges with irate Spurs fans in recent months. Reports have suggested owner, Daniel Levy, and the rest of the Spurs board have been sounding out potential replacements for several weeks now.

Whoever goes in to replace Postecoglou will surely be expected to achieve better than a 17th-place Premier League finish given the talent in Tottenham’s ranks. The betting markets suggest Spurs shouldn’t be anywhere near the drop zone next season. According to leading online sports betting platform Betano, Spurs are eighth favourites (75/1) to win the 2025/26 Premier League. This means they should be expected to compete for European qualification, with their odds currently significantly shorter than the likes of Nottingham Forest (150/1), Brighton (250/1) and AFC Bournemouth (350/1) who are all above Spurs right now.

Who are the serious contenders to replace Postecoglou?

The number-one candidate in the betting markets right now is Crystal Palace’s FA Cup-winning coach, Oliver Glasner. The German boss has proven he can win major trophies on a modest budget. He’s fostered a winning mentality in the Palace squad and is nurturing a young group of players, similar to the average age of the Spurs roster.

Brentford’s Danish supremo, Thomas Frank, is also said to be highly thought of in the Tottenham hierarchy. Frank has helped to establish the Bees as a solid mid-table Premier League club, demonstrating pragmatism and tactical flexibility. His style may not endear him to the Spurs fans that prefer a more stylish approach, but it’s all about winning at the end of the day.

Former boss Mauricio Pochettino has also come into the reckoning, according to the latest betting markets. The Argentine, who took Spurs to the Champions League Final in 2019 is the current head coach of the US men’s national team. He spent five years with Spurs in his previous reign, posting a win rate of 54.27%, well above Postecoglou’s 46.46% win rate.

Fulham’s Portuguese boss, Marco Silva, may be a more stylish alternative to Thomas Frank. Like Frank, Silva has also helped to establish the Cottagers in the top flight having previously yo-yo’d between the Premier League and the Championship.

With their elite stadium, fan base, Champions League football in 25/26 and promising young squad, there will be no shortage of potential suitors for the Tottenham hotseat if Big Ange bites the dust.
