A Football Report
Tévez collects sympathy

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes admits he understands Carlos Tévez after his refusal to come off the bench in the Champions League tie at Munich.

The former midfielder confessed he made the same decision as the Argentine once, in November 2001, but has regretted it ever since.

“How I was brave enough and stupid enough to do that I don’t know”, he said, explaining he thought manager Sir Alex Ferguson was “messing about a bit.”

“I know how Carlos feels. He obviously thinks he is being messed about by Roberto Mancini and he probably has a case with the amount of football he has played. He was their best player last season”, Scholes said.

He added: “When you get that in your head, you make strange decisions. But it is something he [Tévez] will regret in time.”

Lampard gets “frustration”

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard is another one not pointing the finger to his colleague’s rebellion. Lamps, who saw his manager André Villas-Boas lash out about reports saying Lamps was unhappy with his substitute condition earlier this week, says he understands Tévez, albeit not agreeing with his decision.

“I wouldn’t turn down coming on. I don’t imagine myself doing that but I understand people’s frustration and we deal with it in different ways.

“Some people might make the wrong decision at the wrong time and regret it afterwards, so I’m not going to dig anybody out.”
