Is Manchester United turning a corner on Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer?

Since Sir Alex Ferguson chose to retire, Mancheste

A Football Report

Since Sir Alex Ferguson chose to retire, Manchester United have had their toughest time in the club's modern era. Following the meltdown when Ferguson's successor David Moyes was in charge, the two top managers Louis Van Gaal and José Mourinho, failed to take the biggest club in England back to the top. Is their current manager Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer now giving the fans a proper rebuild to believe in, for the first time in seven years?

Before the start of the Premier League 2019/2020 season, people betted on which manager they thought was going to get the sack first. Among those names were Frank Lampard, Unai Emery and Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer. But, browsing betting brands listed on the comparison site Casinofever.ca today, you won't find Solskjaer mentioned as a top candidate among managers who won't keep their job next season. This in itself tells you that Solskjaer is bringing belief to the project that he has started at the club. Let's take a look at some of the things he has changed at the club since his arrival.

Youth is back in focus

Traditionally, Manchester United have brought up plenty of academy greats, and Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer has done his best to honour this philosophy. During the 2019/2020 season, his starting lineups have averaged the lowest combined age amongst all the teams in the league. Academy players such as Andreas Pereira, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Brandon Williams have been given a lot of time on the pitch.

A new course on the transfer market

Since the Norwegian manager took over Manchester United, we've seen a lot of changes in the squad. The likes of Marouane Fellaini, Ashley Young, Matteo Darmian and Romelu Lukaku have left the club permanently alongside Alexis Sanchez and Chris Smalling who are spending the season out on loan.

In the meantime, we've seen new arrivals, such as Daniel James, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, Bruno Fernandes and loanee Odion Ighalo, showing great promise. The squad feels renewed and combined with the homegrown players getting loads of chances, a new course has been set both off and on the pitch.

Their winning mentality is coming back

With Maguire given the captain's armband and latest blockbuster signing Bruno Fernandes being a leader on the pitch, continually demanding more from his teammates, we are now beginning to see a winning mentality spreading amongst the squad. Manchester United is probably the unhappiest team in England not being able to move on with the season and the great run of form they had before it hit the pause button.

Today, with a current fifth spot in the league, unbeaten in their last eleven games, new exciting signings and own academy products coming through the ranks, Manchester United seem to turn a corner under Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer. And the Norwegian manager is set to stay at Manchester United for a longer time than many first would have guessed.
