Carroll “understanding” about not playing

A Football Report

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish reassures there is no problem about Andy Carroll being left out of the squad that beat Brighton in the Carling Cup on Wednesday.

Dalglish made several changes for that game, compared to the starting XI who lost to Tottenham (4-0). Carroll, Liverpool’s record signing, was dropped for Craig Bellamy, but his manager says the striker “understands” his price does not grant him a place in the first-team.

“Andy is a really professional footballer who understands what goes on in football”, he said, adding “we don’t have a team, we have a squad”.

“The football is more important than the individual, including myself. I’m sure the players understand that. Although there will be a disappointment if you aren’t playing, I think there’s an understanding as well.”
