Lotto Football Boots

Introduction

Lotto, an Italian manufacturer of footwear and technical clothing for sports (primarily football and tennis), was established in June 1973. The first products to hit the shelves were tennis shoes. These were shortly followed by specialist shoes for sports such as basketball, athletics and football. High quality, durable sports clothing was developed shortly after the footwear. During the 1970s, Lotto retained a focus upon the Italian market, emerging as a leading company in the world of tennis. The following decade saw the company start to design specialist football boots. Their growing success started to attract famous names such as Thomas Muster and Ruud Gullit, both sponsored by Lotto during the 1980s and 1990s. The Italian football star, Dino Zoff, wore Lotto football boots in 1982. International growth developed rapidly and the 1990s saw the company focus upon improving the technical side of their products.

The mid-1990s saw tennis legends Boris Becker and Martina Navratilova bear Lotto’s name on their clothing and footwear. The Dutch national team asked Lotto to become their technical sponsor and official supplier in 1994 and the Czech Republic requested the same in 1998. In 1999 Lotto was taken over by a company headed by Andrea Tomat. At this point, the company was renamed Lotto Sport Italia. Tomat was outspoken in his desire to further the strengths of Lotto. He believed these strengths to be dynamism, innovation and quality of design, and an overall passion for sport. Since then, Tomat has focussed upon developing Lotto’s reputation for excellent customer service. Today, Lotto distributes its products in 80 countries, through independent sports stores, specialised chain-stores and large department stores. In 2006, Lotto produced an impressive turnover of 277 million Euros. 15% of this turnover was achieved in the Asia-Pacific area, a region that is becoming increasingly important to Lotto.

Lotto has a proud history of major sponsorships. Luca Toni, Simone Perrotta, Julio Ricardo Cruz and Marek Jankulovski are all proud to wear Lotto football boots. Teams that have signed sponsorship deals with Lotto include Italy’s Fiorentina, Palermo and Udinese, Holland’s NEC Nijmegen, France’s Sochaux and Nice, Germany’s Mainz and Borussia Monchengladbach, Belgium’s Waregem, Greece’s Aigaleo, Romania’s Rapid Bucurest and Mexico City’s Pumas. The national teams of Ukraine and Colombia have also been involved with Lotto.
