Liga ZON Sagres kicks off to a slow but surprising start

The Portuguese league lifted off last weekend with few goals but many unexpected wins. There were surprise defeats for defending champions Benfica and city rivals Sporting. Title challengers FC Porto and Braga were victorious.

The 2010/2011 Liga Zon Sagres started on Friday the 13th with a 3-1 victory for Braga against recently promoted side Portimonense. It was an easy win for last years’ runners-up who were winning 2-0 with goals from Paulo Cesar and Matheus. Elias pulled one back before new singing Leandro Salino made it 3-1. Braga play against Spanish cup winners Sevilla tomorrow in the Champions League qualifier 1st leg before they take on Setubal during the weekend.
