Bob Bradley leaves position with USA to become first American manager in the Premier League

UPDATE: The U.S. Soccer Federation has denied talkSPORT’s report that Bob Bradley has quit as coach of the national team. “It’s 100 percent not true,” U.S. Soccer spokesman Neil Buethe said in a telephone interview.

The current coach of the United States Men’s National Team Bob Bradley has left his position and could be revealed as Aston Villa’s manager as early as next week, according to talkSPORT. Bradley would be the first American to manage in England’s top-flight. So, how did this happen? Well Randy Lerner, the owner of the Villans, is a big admirer of the fellow American, and pushed to let Bradley be the man to replace Martin O’Neill. 

The 52-year-old, who previously only has club experience managing MLS sides DC United, NY/NJ Metrostars (now Red Bulls), Chivas USA and Chicago Fire, will not be in England in time for Villa’s opening Premier League fixture against West Ham. Despite some dubious squad selection decisions in the 2010 World Cup, I have met Bradley in person on two occasions and there really are not too many smarter coaches out there. His tactical approach may be lagging behind the likes of Mourinho and Wenger, but the Princeton-educated man knows how to create a disciplined, hardworking side.
