A Disillusioned Disappointing Dull Draw

The title says it all. The clash between Prosaic Portugal and Boring Brazil was expected to be the most entertaining encounter of the group stages. Two of the world’s best and most entertaining teams were facing each other at Durban to fight for the first place spot in Group G. Surely this match was going to be one to remember, the media built this game up for months and players constantly talked about it. Brazil vs Portugal is normally a football match which must never be missed.
Unfortunately the anticipation, climax and hype of the match were soon shattered when the match kicked off. Were the two sides playing for a draw? It was a match which nobody needed or wanted to win. Brazil had already qualified and Portugal only needed a point, therefore a 0-0 result would suit both sides perfectly. Ironic?
