One of the greatest men to grace the game; a grey-haired madman who uses constellations to make judgements; a bad-tempered Italian genius; an unfortunate victim of Real Madrid’s greedy ghastliness; a multilingual German aristocrat; a man recommended by Jurgen Klinsmann himself; a World Cup-winning smoker, back to revitalise his nation; and a successor to the infamously famous Sven (and Sven himself). These represent just more a quarter of the thirty-two men charged with a task only one could fathomably complete.

Press conferences have been rife with journalists murderously hankering for a slice of Diego Maradona magic (though they would have to look back 24 years for that really). It’s anybody’s guess as to which three he’ll pick from his flock of attacking assemblage (Milito, Messi, Tevez, Aguero, Palermo, Higuain) and how he’ll cope without any fullbacks.
