The World Cup is a tournament full of surprises. In 2006, Switzerland, Australia and Ecuador were all ultimate underdogs and surprisingly made it through the group stages. One of them was unlucky not to have qualified to the quarter-finals because of a “legitimate” last minute penalty. 2010 won’t be any different and as there are 5 days to go, here are the top 5 ultimate underdogs to look out for:

5. Algeria

It’s already a big surprise that The Desert Foxes are playing at South Africa, nobody expected them to knock out the almighty Egypt. They were also the surprise team at the African Cup of Nations where they reached the semi-finals, knocking out Ivory Coast in the quarter-finals. Algeria are in Group C along with England, USA and Slovenia. The first two teams are the strongest in the group and Algeria will need to play with their unyielding team spirit and unity to beat them. Algeria are a united team, they’ve already made a few surprises along the way and don’t be shocked to see another one.
