The Thierry Henry Dilemma
The Thierry Henry Dilemma

Raymond Domenech will announce the much anticipated World Cup French squad on May 11th and for the very first time it will be televised live on the 8pm national news. The French manager has been highly criticised since he took the job back in 2004, notably because of his selection choices. We’ve also all laughed at the fact that he allegedly based his line-ups on astrology - Domenech having himself failed to deny it.
It will be very interesting to see which stars do align this Summer as Domenech’s recent ratings could even be lower than those of President Nicolas Sarkozy.
Many talented players have regularly been ignored under Domenech’s rule, the likes of David Trezeguet and Phillippe Mexes. However, one who seems to be there to stay is Thierry “Titi” Henry. The Barcelona forward is not only France’s captain he has also been Domenech’s weapon of choice ever since Zidane’s retirement. And yet, Henry’s place in the French squad is not as certain as one may believe.
