Patrick Vieira knows that France needs Patrick Vieira

Patrick Vieira was asked on Tuesday April 6th if he still believed in his chances of being included in Raymond Domenech’s World Cup squad. His answer:

“Yes of course I would pick Patrick Vieira without any problem. Given his experience, his determination and what he can bring to the France team, I would pick him.”

Patrick Vieira is not only remarkable because he refers to himself in the third person, I believe he is also absolutely spot on. 

imageThe former France captain has not had the easiest couple of years, struggling with injuries and poor fitness with Jose Mourinho’s Inter. After being  sidelined for the majority of the season with the Italian team, even drifting behind Sulley Muntari and Thiago Motta as first-choice defensive midfielder, his move back to the Premier League seemed to be an act of desperation. 

And yet, Vieira has slowly settled within Mancini’s side and following a strong performance against Burnley this weekend, I believe the French coach has a difficult choice to make this May.
