Malicious Monday: The United States-Canada rivalry is very much alive in football
Carlos Bocanegra, the United States’ captain and ex-Fulham defender who now plays for Rennes in Ligue 1, absolutely destroys former Deportivo La Coruña midfielder (now at Toronto FC in Major League Soccer) & Canada international Julian de Guzman in this ludicrous tackle. While the US-Canada rivalry in hockey usually steals the headlines, Carlos gives Canadians everywhere a reason to hate American soccer with this reckless challenge. Although something tells me that every American that watches this clip will respect their fellow countrymen quite a bit more. Funny how that works out. This was back at the 2007 Gold Cup (a tournament with teams from FIFA's CONCACAF region), but it never really gets old, does it?
