A late Samuel Eto'o goal was all that was needed to secure victory at Stamford Bridge and to send Chelsea tumbling out of the Champions League. Throughout the match, Chelsea found little freedom as Inter came out with a well organized defencive approach. Inter managed to suppress numerous Chelsea attacks, usually stemming from Frank Lampard or Florent Malouda combining with either Nicolas Anelka or Didier Drogba up front.

Although there was enough drama on the pitch, Jose Mourinho’s world-class tactics stole the show as a disciplined Inter Milan squad showed unified determination to defeat what many consider to be the best team in England. Jose’s return was obviously bittersweet, with Chelsea fans getting stuck with the bitter welcome back for the Portuguese mastermind. Carlo Ancelotti was left dumbfounded by how his side had been dismantled, as he agreed after the match that Inter deserved to move on to the Quarterfinals.
