The Hex has arrived
South American World Cup qualifying started many months ago, but today its northern neighbors begin competing in The Hex, the final group of World Cup qualifying for CONCACAF’s top 6 nations. Mexico, Jamaica, Panama, Costa Rica, Honduras, and the United States make up the teams taking part in one of the grittiest paths to Brazil next summer. The most interesting match of the day takes place between Honduras and the United States in San Pedro Sula, the “Murder Capital of the World.”
Our friends at KICKTV give some context to what the road to the World Cup is like in the Hex in the video above, but here are some other pieces for expanding your horizons and/or slicing down time until kickoff.
- Steven Goff’s Postcard from San Pedro Sula
- Ryan O'Hanlon asks, “Why are you in the world’s most dangerous city?
- Brian Straus examines the extent of the expected home field advantage
- Noah Davis looks at Michael Bradley’s ever-growing presence as a leader
- And finally, Roger Bennett has a lovely chat with Jurgen Klinsmann about how his coaching philosophy developed.
By the way, American Soccer Now is giving away two trips to the World Cup, so chances are that’s worth your time. [Posted by Eric]
