Catalunya experiencing “the Iniesta generation” of babies.

Andrés, you’re officially the new boom king.

Legendary commentator Ray Hudson once said, “there’ll be some loving tonight in the beds of Madrid!” after Real defeated Mallorca to win La Liga in 2007. Reports are now coming out of Catalunya that Iniesta’s wondergoal to send Barcelona to the Champions League final has prompted a surge in births in the Catalan capital of almost 50 percent.”

It’s been nine months since Andres Iniesta’s stunning late strike which took Barcelona through to the Champions League final at the expense of Chelsea, and maternity hospitals are struggling to cope with demand for beds.

“When we notice some sort of surge we look for the reason and it’s evident that the cause of the increase this week is the euphoria of Barca fans thanks to the huge win and Iniesta’s goal,” El Mundo newspaper quoted Mercedes Rodriguez of the city’s Quiron Clinic as saying.

As The Offside put it so nicely, “Andres Iniesta went boom. Then Barcelona fans went boom boom. And now we have the Andres Iniesta boom boom boom.

If you’re afraid of that Iniesta’s baby-producing powers will cause overpopulation in Spain, don’t be. I’m sure Madrid’s birth rate went down just as much as Barcelona’s went up after Real was beaten 6-2 a week before the Barca-Chelsea game.
