Heading to London with 0 goals scored and 10 conceded in their first two matches against Blackpool and Chelsea, Roberto Martinez’s Wigan squad looked to be in dire straits. However, the Latics put on an admirable defence-oriented display to prevent the possession-dominating Tottenham from getting on the mark. And just when Tottenham seemed to have that late winner coming, Hugo Rodallega’s shot towards to far post from the top of the box somehow beat Carlo Cudicini. The 80th minute goal brought out untraveled character in Wigan’s morale, and the club dealt with constant pressure from their opponents in the dying minutes. So in the span of just a couple of days, Spurs reached their highest of highs by beating Young Boys 4-0 to qualify for the Champions League Group Stage, but also their lowest of lows by losing to the club that was sitting in the Premier League’s 20th place.
