In a story that was first announced by Arsenal blog Young Guns in August, Arsenal have finally confirmed the signing of Japanese forward Ryo Miyaichi. It was a great birthday present for the young player as he signed his contract with the Gunners on his 18th birthday.

Ryo has represented Japan at the Under-17 level and it was his performance at a trial spell over the summer that impressed Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

The group stages for the 16 teams were revealed yesterday in Germany. The host nation saw their name drawn right at the beginning as they get to play in the first match against Canada on June 26th of next year.

Excitement was heard from the German delegation as they knew they would begin the tournament playing in the Berlin Olympiastadion where the previous 2006 World Cup was held - also where the infamous Zidane headbutt occured.

“It was crap” was how US coach Pia Sundhage described the match against Italy this weekend. Although happy to have qualified for Germany, the coach was describing more of the poor performance in the first 20 minutes in Toyota Park.

The scoreline of 1-0 was the same as the first leg of the World Cup playoff series between the US and Italy. Lone goals scored in each leg by Alex Morgan and Amy Rodriguez was enough to get them through. However both teams missed a series of chances that could have gone either way.

Having already qualified for the Women’s World Cup next year in Germany, after defeating Costa Rica 4-0 in the semi-final, the Canadians had the chance to take it all in the final against host Mexico.

It would be deja-vu for the team as they had already played the host nation a few days before and had taken all the points with a 3-0 victory.

Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur - a match that is always enjoyable to watch had a surprisingly strong young Arsenal side take the lead in the first 15 minutes with first time starter Henri Lansbury tapping in a beautiful cross from Jack Wilshere. It was the 19 year old’s first start with Arsenal and his first goal.
