AFR’s 2010/11 Fantasy Premier League!

We’re less than a month away from seeing Rooney, Drogba, Arsene, ‘nando, Deuce, and the rest of the lads of the English Premier League battle it out for glory and money. So here at AFR we’ve decided to announce our official 2010-2011 Fantasy Premier League Challenge. And this year we have prizes, such as an official Premier League jersey, for the winners thanks to the good folks over at SoccerPro and Cult Zeros. But more on that later…

Here are the details as to how to join in on the action:

  • First, head on over to the official fantasy premier league website and log in. (You’ll need to register if you haven’t done so before, which takes all of two minutes.)
  • Once you have logged in and set up your team, go on and click the “Leagues” link in the left navigation bar.
  • Click create/join and in the “join a private league” section enter in code 273254-72821 and click submit. You should now be in the AFR Legends league.

Okay, so want to know the prizes that can be won? Thought so.

  • The Winner chooses from SoccerPro’s selection of official soccer jerseys
  • 2nd place gets a custom Cult Zeros shirt.
  • 3rd place chooses from SoccerPro’s selection of soccer balls of your choice (priced below $25, courtesy of SoccerPro)
  • 4th, 5th, and 6th place will receive a $10 Gift Card to spend on soccer gear at SoccerPro

So as long as you keep up with your team, you’ll have a good shot of winning something. We’ve also opened up the competition to our good friends at Football Corner and Yanks Are Coming. Beyond prizes, this league is going to be extremely interactive, as we’ll supply spontaneous fantasy tips throughout the season, fairly competitive, but also a whole lot of fun. I’ve created my team already, “Fabregas’ Firm”, which you can see below. Think you can do better? Prove it.

The “Don’t Mention the Score” England-Germany Twitter Prediction Contest!

Well, Ghana are Uruguay are already through to the quarterfinals, but no one in England cares because Fabio Capello, Rooney, and the rest of the lads take on the Germans tomorrow! It is a match of epic proportions with, uh, quite the history.. Just don’t mention the war! Anyway, the English-German contest calls for an equally epic prediction contest! AFR is giving away a £100 (roughly $150) iTunes Gift card to the winner! It’s like being told, “Well done, son” by Winston Churchill!

This giveaway is courtesy of VoucherCodes.co.uk, who have vouchers for restaurant, high street and online discounts, including Sky Offer Codes.

Here are the contest details! It’s really simple!

 1) Tweet your predicted scoreline and goalscorers @afootballreport. So an example Tweet would be, “England to win 2-0. Rooney and Defoe to score.” The goalscorers are the tie-breaker. You can follow A Football Report on Twitter hereNote: If you don’t have Twitter you can a) create one in 30 seconds or b) email your predictions to contest@afootballreport.com

 2) The iTunes Gift Card goes to the person who correctly (or comes closest to) predicting the correct scoreline. If more than one person guesses the correct scoreline, then the person who guesses the correct goalscorers will collect the card.

So what are you waiting for? It’s England-Germany! It’s proper football at its best.

We all know the situation. If England win and the United States win tomorrow against Slovenia and Algeria, respectively, then they’re both through to the knockout stages. So we’re having our second Twitter-based prediction competition to um… lighten the mood in the build-up to the emotional set of 90 minutes. Simply follow AFootballReport on Twitter, then tweet @afootballreport your predicted scores of the two matches and, as a tie-breaker, the name of one player you think will score a goal. So an example tweet will be, “@afootballreport England to win 3-0, USA to win 2-0. Rooney to score.” Simple enough right?

What do you get if you correctly predict the score, you ask? Well, we’re giving away one of SDITH.com’s football shirts. My personal favourite is this Rooney-themed legends shirt, but you can view of the others below. If you have any questions just tweet them at us!

Top of the League Contest Winners Announced!

We had a three-way tie for our ‘Top of the League’ Prediction Contest, which asked people to submit their predictions for the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, and the Champions League as a tiebreaker. Instead of just flipping a coin or choosing a random winner of the official jersey supplied by SoccerPro.com, we decided to do something a little different with AFR’s first ever Crossbar Challenge. Thanks to everyone who entered and congrats to our winners Vetricia, Kamal, and Rafal! Vetricia wins an officially licensed soccer jersey, but Kamal and Rafal won official Adidas Capitano balls. The video explaining our Crossbar Challenge is below! If you didn’t win with your predictions, don’t worry, we’ll be back with more contests soon!

The Top Four

(from Alyssa)

Reporter: Frank, in 2008 after the Champions League final in Moscow you called John Terry, “a man’s man.” How is he a man’s man exactly?

Frank: Well, he thinks he’s one of our greatest defenders. You have to admire that confidence. Some say he takes his job a little too seriously because he practices quite a bit.

Reporter: That’s true. Yes, I can see he’s a great tumblr, but he’s also making animal noises at me. Is that what he normally does on the pitch?

Frank: No, no it is not.

(from Christian)

John Terry - “Frank… He’s soft. Very Soft. Has a nice cotton shirt, but I don’t he is suitable for your interview.”
Frank Lampard - “You’re right John. The shirt may be soft, but the tie doesn’t fit. Fabio has given us his Italian sense of judging on style.”

 (from Peter H)

Chelsea’s Frank Lampard lies on the Stamford Bridge pitch, as teammate John Terry attempts to prevent an interview from taking place. Says Lampard: “Yeah, I was just trying to see what it feels like to be John Terry after missing a penalty in the Champions League Final.”

 (from Dominic)

Reporter: Frank, did you know that Capello has banned WAGS from being at the England hotel?

Frank: Oh… I better not share a room with John Terry then.

John Terry (to reporter): I told you not to tell him!
