AFR Prediction Contest: Top of the League Tourney! Win a World Cup jersey and more! (courtesy of SoccerPro)

Simply put, this year has been amazing for football all over Europe. Arsenal, Manchester United, and Chelsea are fighting for the Premiership trophy, Barcelona & Real Madrid are battling atop La Liga, and Inter Milan, AS Roma, and AC Milan are all trying to snatch the Scudetto in Italy’s Serie A. The Premier League, La Liga, and Serie A have all been tighter than ever, so we thought we would take advantage of this lovely situation with a “Top of the League” prediction tournament.

The rules to participate in the contest are ever-so simple:

Pick the clubs that will win the Premier League, La Liga, and Serie A. As a tiebreaker (just in case more than one of you predicts all the three correctly) also pick who will win the Champions League. That’s it. Seriously.

Once you have chosen your respective champions, you can submit your predictions in one of three ways:

1)    Facebook – post your picks onto our Facebook fan page.
2)    Twitter- Tweet to us your picks! The Tweet should look something like this: “@afootballreport Top of the League Picks:  Arsenal, Barcelona, and Roma. Champions League Winner- Inter Milan”
3)    Tumblr- If you simply reblog this with your picks clearly added on at the end of the post, then you’re all good.

If your predictions are the best out of our list of entrants, then you can pick one official jersey from the selection of World Cup soccer jerseys (up to $70) courtesy of the awesome guys over at SoccerPro! The second and third place winners will also win 2010 World Cup Capitano footballs with the country of your choice.

Predictions are due by next Tuesday (April 6th) before the Second Leg of the Champions League Quarterfinals kicks off! So go on and submit your picks, it’s not everyday you’ll find the opportunity to win officially licensed soccer jerseys so easily! If you have any questions about the contest feel free to post them below or send us an email at contact@afootballreport.com. The winners will be announced May 22nd (right after the Champions League Final)

Cheers,
Eric & Jordan Beard

La Liga, the Premier League, and Serie A all embraced the cause to fight AIDS in Africa this past weekend

From Cristiano Ronaldo in Spain to Clarence Seedorf in Italy to Didier Drogba in England, the top players in the top European leagues were all smashing Nike’s special “(Red)” ball in the back of net this past weekend in an effort to raise awareness for the (Red) campaign for stopping AIDS in Africa.

Real Valladolid vs Real Madrid

Susan Smith Ellis, CEO of (RED) says: “Having three of the world’s Premier football leagues is a force multiplier for NIKE AND (RED).  It raises awareness.  It expands our reach.  Most important, it benefits those who suffer from AIDS in Africa.  We could not be more pleased.”

The Nike and (RED) partnership invites people to ‘Lace Up. Save Lives’ by purchasing a pair of (NIKE)RED laces. One hundred percent of the profits from (NIKE) RED laces is split equally between The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, which funds AIDS programs that provide medicine, treatment and services for those living with HIV, and football-based community initiatives that deliver education and understanding around HIV/AIDS prevention.

And if you haven’t done so yet, go on and enter our "Good Causes Giveaway." Thanks to SoccerPro, we’re giving away five pairs of Nike’s (Red) Laces.

Linking Up: Going along with the theme of the weekend, “Me Gustas Tu”. Hope everyone is having a good one!

Football experts (including myself) have their say on who will be in the Top Four come May [Football Corner]

It really has been the year of the hamstring injury, hasn’t it? Arshavin is the latest victim. [Never Captain Nicky Butt]

Fútbolita urges Joan Laporta to get as far away from Sepp Blatter as possible.
