Marvin Sordell’s Adventure in the Championship

Interview compiled by Dominic Vieira

Marvin Sordell is a 19 year old striker who wears the number 20 shirt for Championship side Watford. A Football Report will be closely monitoring the youngster’s development and growth with a weekly interview.

1. Last weekend you scored in Watford’s 6-1 victory against Millwall. What does the high scoring victory mean to the team?

It was a great result obviously seeing as Millwall have had that long unbeaten run at home. It is also a big statement to the league that shows we fear nobody

2. Did the team work extra hard to pull off a terrific win or was it a day when everything went well?

We work hard in training leading up to every game. It’s great when things on a match day go the way you plan and it was one of those days where a lot of things did.

3. You’re in hot form scoring 4 goals in the last 3 games, how confident are you feeling when up front?

Yeah it is great to be in and scoring goals at the moment. For me being a striker is all about scoring. It doesn’t only win games and recognition but it also gives you confidence when you go into games and right now I couldn’t be more confident.

4. Do you believe that you can become the league’s top goalscorer?

At this stage of the season its hard to say but I go into every game with the belief that I can score.

5. The Watford fans nicknamed you “Marvin Scoredell”, what is your response to this name?

Im glad that the fans are enjoying watching me play football as much as I’m enjoying playing it right now and it’s quite a clever nickname they’ve given me as well.

Marvin Sordell’s Adventure in the Championship

Interview compiled by Dominic Vieira

Marvin Sordell is a 19 year old striker who wears the number 20 shirt for Championship side Watford. He has been interviewed on several occasions for A Football Report, but this season the youngster’s development and growth will be closely monitored with a weekly interview.

Last weekend you came off the bench to score your first two league goals of the season against Doncaster. How did it feel?
I was delighted to have scored two goals but disappointed that we let the lead slip away and drop two points from the game.

Before
entering the pitch did the manager say anything specific?
Funnily enough he just said to me enjoy myself and score a goal. I ended up scoring two!

Did you think you would score?
I always go into a game with the confidence and belief that I will score.

Despite scoring 2 goals, Doncaster equalised in stoppage time to finalise the result 2-2. How important is concentration for 90 minutes?
It is very important because it only takes a few seconds to score a goal and that can come from just one lapse of concentration. You need to be aware of everything that is going on at all times.

When you’re sitting on the bench and the opponent scores, what are the thoughts buzzing in your mind?
I’m one that usually gets into the game so I feel the same disappointments as a fan would and when the team loses a goal I feel the same emotions as they would.

Marvin Sordell’s Premier League Preview

Interview conducted by Dominic Vieira, writing from Lisbon

AFR interviewed Watford’s Marvin Sordell with questions about the new 2010/2011 season. The 19-year-old striker took some off time from his season schedule where he has been a first team player for the Championship side. The moment you’ve all been waiting for:

1. Who do you think will win the 2010/2011 Premier League season?

Manchester United. You can never go against them as they are always there or roundabout for the entire season.

2. Which teams are the contenders?

Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, Man Utd - The new big four. Man City have spent the money that Liverpool and Tottenham haven’t to become title contenders.

3. Who will get relegated?

Blackpool, West Brom and Wolves. Blackpool and West Brom probably don’t have the strength in depth needed to compete in the division whilst Wolves will probably struggle to beat the drop this time around.

Watford’s Marvin Sordell talks about his career, England, and the World Cup

Interview conducted by Dominic Vieira

Marvin Sordell is promising striker who plays for Watford. Sordell is not yet a world-renowned superstar, but we’ll certainly be hearing more about his talent over the next few years. He signed his first professional contract with the Championship side last April and played the 2009/2010 season for his club and represented Tranmere Rovers on a 2 month loan spell.

Sordell, at the brisk age of 19, has been compared to the likes of Gabriel Agbonlahor and is set to have a prosperous future ahead of him. He has yet to represent the England youth teams, but if he continues to work hard, keep his feet on the grown and improve he could certainly get the call.

AFR had the great opportunity to talk with the young talent and the interview focuses on his career and the World Cup.
