One final farewell to Beckham

From the sponsorships to the movie star lifestyle, David Beckham always seemed on the cusp of his career as a professional athlete being less important than his life on talk shows or in photoshoots. But looking back on his career that spans over two decades, the man had it (mostly) figured out. There were certainly highs and lows, but ultimately no one conquered football, and the world of sports at large, quite like David. As he walked off the pitch one last time, it’s clear how much he loved the game. [GIFs by Dale con Comba]

The moment for Real Madrid to rise is here. La Decima is close, and Cristiano Ronaldo has been crucial to the club’s Champions League success, snatching one clutch goal after another. The consistency is as impressive as the number of goals being tallied, and now we wait to see if the super number 7 can continue his streak. [This piece was GIF’d by Dale con Comba, and originally featured in the March issue of Argentina’s El Grafico]

Flipping Ronaldinho

The magic of the man with golden feet and terrible teeth has been captured in flipbook form, and we’re still stunned by what Etoilec1 has created. Ronaldinho’s finest moments in all their aesthetic brilliance have been condensed to a few sheets of paper, but the final product only blows us away just as much as the original masterpieces. You can almost hear the “Olé” as the paper skips.

This is Hadokick-ing and it is brilliant.
The KICKTV team took Hadoken-ing to the next level, and now they’re challenging everyone to Hadokick. Weekend project. Boom.

At SXSW? Spend some time with AFR and KICKTV

The nerds have united. All those musicians you’ve never heard of, except for that one band that you vaguely know from college are here. And so are we. This weekend we’ll be at Fado representing AFR and Tumblr’s football community Tumblr FC at KICKTV’s Kegs & Eggs event.

There will be footy on TV. There will be FIFA. And yes, there may even be a little 3v3 tournament that unleashes itself onto Austin. Keep your eye on the Jimmy Conrad and Dennis Crowley dream team. If you’re around, we’ll see you there. If your friend’s around, tell them to get down here and kick around. [Event RSVP. Get in touch on Twitter. GIFs by Dale Con Comba. Posted by Eric]

The night Roman returns. By Gonza Rodriguez x Dale con Comba.
The Argentine Clausura is in full force, but tonight Juan Roman Riquelme returns to La Bombonera to suit up for Boca Juniors. After a long spell of contemplating retirement, tonight will be the first time JRR is playing in 8 months, and for the occasion our two incredible jefes capos artists based in South America created something special.

Cristiano’s free kick - a piece by Dan Leydon
”When planning this piece for AFR I wanted to capture a moment of heightened tension in the Clásico. Something about night games gives a match an added sense of excitement and I love the air of carnival that descends whenever La Liga’s two titans go head-to-head.
Ronaldo’s iconic free kick stance was a definite inclusion and only after I had made the first piece did I have the realisation to add a close up of his eyes.”
We’re delighted to feature Dan’s work on AFR as he experiments with using GIFs to further his creativity. Find Dan on: Twitter / Tumblr / Etsy. [Posted by Eric]

Amusing Musing: Arsenal defence panicking, small Arshavin is small, Maldini’s son is a maestro

Be sure to recommend A Football Report or recommend World Cup Report this week! We’ll make it up to you in the near future! (Future Contest. What?)

We recently added the site Who Ate All The Pies to our (somewhat) prestigious list of “Our Firm’s Favourites”. Anyway, the bloke who runs it goes by Ollie Irish, and he’s a master at making ridiculously funny GIFS. Enjoy the masterpieces below.

First, Nicklas Bendtner making fun of tiny Arshavin. The girl is almost as tall as him! Second, everyone taking the piss at Arsenal’s so-called defence.
