As close as you can get to tracking Messi
The living legend’s finally showing up for his nation, and Argentina are swiftly on their way to qualifying for the World Cup. This past weekend, Lionel Messi was in fine form as Argentina beat Venezuela 3-0. TV Publica in Argentina had a camera on Leo the whole match, and while it’s not Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait, this compilation is just as mesmerizing. [Posted by Eric]

Welcome back, J. League!
Japan’s top football competition, the J. League, might have barely kicked off earlier this month, but the supporters already seem to be in mid-season form. Scarcely two years since the debilitating 2011 Tōhoku earthquake that left parts of Japan devastated, both the country and domestic game are recovering. Here’s to Japan. The night Roman returns. By Gonza Rodriguez x Dale con Comba.
The Argentine Clausura is in full force, but tonight Juan Roman Riquelme returns to La Bombonera to suit up for Boca Juniors. After a long spell of contemplating retirement, tonight will be the first time JRR is playing in 8 months, and for the occasion our two incredible
jefes capos artists based in South America created something special.
North London shakes. The derby is here.
With the Gareth Bale show™ in full force, all eyes will be on White Hart Lane tomorrow for a little rendezvous between Arsene and AVB’s men. While Wenger has insisted Bale can be stopped, Spurs sit above the Gunners in the table and are on course for that precious 4th spot in the Champions League. If Spurs win, Arsenal can probably kiss those annual Champions League dreams goodbye. If Arsenal come away with a win, everything will be wide open. A morning like any other, by Dan Leydon
After Messi picked up his fourth consecutive Ballon D’Or, I thought AFR’s audience would appreciate the humour of my take on where he keeps the trophies themselves. I wanted to communicate how unaffected by personal trophies he is. After some deliberation I came to the conclusion that the best way to do this was to show him integrating the pieces into his everyday life. In a way, this mundane task also humanises him.
In reference to the artwork itself, I’ve wanted to do comics that communicate without using speech. Hopefully they are that bit more immersive than my regular work.
Anderson’s flash of magic
He’s been inconsistent and has suffered many injuries, but every now and again Anderson provides an ounce of pure quality.
Last night in their 2-1 victory over Newcastle, the stands at Old Trafford were jumping in delight following the screaming golazo from the Man Utd midfielder. The infamous Richard Swarbrick created a hand-painted GIF of Anderson’s strike to capture the occasion.
