Dortmund’s Yellow Wall meets Real Madrid’s Dreams of La Décima
Some of the best fans in the world welcome Real Madrid & their dreams of a 10th Champions League title to Dortmund. As they did for Bayern vs Barça, KICKTV again called on our man Dan Leydon to show what happens when Galacticos face a wall of 70,000 screaming Germans.
Some goals never change, by Dan Leydon
Sir Alex loved having him alongside Rooney, but those days have passed.
Mourinho couldn’t stand him, now he can’t imagine his team without Ronaldo.
As he returns to Old Trafford next week, this is inspired by the two men who know, more than anyone, just how dangerous Cristiano can be.
A new dawn in Deutschland
‘Guardiola’s move to the Bundesliga seems to confirm the league’s new sexiness across Europe. The man himself casts a long shadow, one filled with hopes as well as doubts. Will he be able to apply his successful techniques at a club where himself and his ideals weren’t incubated? Time will tell.’ - We’re delighted to feature Dan Leydon’s work on AFR. Daydreaming with Iniesta
“I realised how much I admire Iniesta as a player and a person after reading Graham Hunter’s BARCA book. I love his style of play. He is the epitome of skill, but what hits home is his personality. The guy seems to be so humble and appreciative of his position in life. With him being so down to earth, I wanted to show him in an everyday situation while simultaneously reminding us that everything starts as a dream.” - Dan Leydon
Neither words nor numbers do him justice. By Dan Leydon
“My thoughts on Messi are probably a lot like everyone else’s; I feel like I’m witnessing something special every time I watch him play. When he was through on goal the other night and then collapsed in a heap clutching his knee I was worried he’d lose some of his ability to a serious injury. But no, he just came back in the next game and scored two ridiculous finishes to break Muller’s goal record and notch 86 goals in a calendar year. Words don’t do him justice. I have a feeling we won’t be able to fully understand the consistency of his genius until he retires.”
“Zizou dances in Madrid” - by Dan Leydon
“I’ve never appraoched Zidane as a subject for illustration before. What always struck me about his style of play was his grace of movement. I wanted to show him in a quite skillful pose so I went with the behind the leg drag back. I even toyed with putting a pink tutu on him as a humorous nod to his balletic movements.”
Cristiano’s free kick - a piece by Dan Leydon
”When planning this piece for AFR I wanted to capture a moment of heightened tension in the Clásico. Something about night games gives a match an added sense of excitement and I love the air of carnival that descends whenever La Liga’s two titans go head-to-head.
Ronaldo’s iconic free kick stance was a definite inclusion and only after I had made the first piece did I have the realisation to add a close up of his eyes.”
