World Cup bans, another failure for French Football

The French Football Federation took action on Tuesday against the alleged leaders of the World Cup fiasco that had led to the controversial exit of the 2006 finalists from the tournament. Unsurprisingly, Nicolas Anelka, who was not represented at the hearing, received the heaviest punishment with an 18-match ban from the French national team. Patrice Evra, Franck Ribery and Jeremy Toulalan also received match-suspensions from l’Equipe de France” (respectively five, three and one) for their involvement in the “Knysa revolt” of June 20th while Eric Abidal was the only one to avoid any kind of ban. Although I understand the FFF had to make some kind of move, I believe they fail to grasp who they are truly punishing with these sanctions.
