World Cup

If you were planning on throwing down some money for this summer’s World Cup, why not do it to benefit a good cause? Here at AFR we’re all about spreading the word for some of the problems that need to be dealt with around the world, and with South Africa in the spotlight, we thought we would enlighten you on an organization doing great work in the Rainbow Nation.

These Numbers Have Faces is a Portland, Oregon-based nonprofit organization working in the townships of Cape Town, South Africa.

Through dynamic education programs, mentoring, and financial literacy, These Numbers Have Faces is empowering young people to reduce poverty in their own communities.

To support it’s soccer and education programs, These Numbers Have Faces recently launched a World Cup Benefit Bracket for the 2010 games being held in South Africa.  All proceeds benefit education programs in South African townships and offer great prizes for the winners who most accurately predict the outcomes of World Cup Matches.

Did you know?

  • In South Africa, only 3.5% of Black South Africans graduate from college.
