After 100 years, Estadio San Mamés falls

San Mamés, the hallowed ground of Athletic Bilbao, opened on August 21, 1913. After 100 years and dozens of generations of squads passing through the stadium, its century of existence has come to an end.

The new stadium, San Mamés Barria, will be replacing the old 40,000 seater. Instead of gently waving San Mamés goodbye, the Basque tore it down and a full gallery and video of the historic site’s demolition can be found here and here for all its masochistic supporters.
