Back up your banter with AFR in the Heineken Star Player game, see your club live in the Champions League. Simple.

By Oliver Sparrow, writing from London
I’ve had a chance to play the Heineken Star Player game and although I was pretty abysmal at it, I thought it was a really good laugh. Proving to your mates that you’ve got the best footballing brain whilst watching a live game, instead of just shouting abuse at them down the pub seems more positive all around. Star Player allows you to watch UEFA Champions League matches on television whilst playing it in real-time on a computer, iPhone or iPod touch. How often have you checked your phone or been on the computer whilst watching a game live on TV? At AFR we’re always dual-screening, it just seems to be part of our nature. Well, Star Player takes advantage of that.
We don’t normally do this, but we decided to team up with Heineken on this one to give our awesome readers an exclusive chance to win two tickets to a UEFA Champions League group game of their choice next season.* To win, all you have to do is enter and come top of our VIP ‘AFR Stars’ league and play the Heineken Star Player game on your iPhone, iPod touch, or on Facebook. Full details below.
The aim of the game is to predict what’s going to happen next in the live game. If you’re the one down the pub who’s the King of predo-banter, it’s time to show your mettle and step up to the plate. Can you see a goal brewing from a mile away? –hit the ‘Goal in next 30 seconds’ button and chance your arm. Is he clearly going to thump that penalty straight down the middle like a big bottler? –prove that you know what’s going on. If your predictions are a bit off, there are some football trivia questions during the lulls in the action to boost your score. I was somewhat better at these, though not much…
So, naturally if you’re a Manchester United fan like myself, Rooney is clearly going to curl every free kick right into the top corner leaving the ‘keeper no chance, right? Well, apparently wrong. I had a bash at proving my football foresight at the brilliant launch of Heineken’s Star Player at the Emirates stadium last week whilst watching the Manchester United versus Schalke game live. I had a great time, but I did let the side down somewhat by finishing in lowly seventh place in the journos’ league - shame on me. Turns out I was more Septic Peg than Mystic Meg. Perhaps imbibing one too many Heinekens was clouding my judgement.
It’s time for AFR readers to show me how it’s done by entering our exclusive league. The first 24 people to apply will comprise the league, and they’ll be battling it out to prove that they know their stuff and win themselves a pair of tickets to a UEFA Champions League group game of their choice next season.*
There are three games left in which to play along. The first is Real Madrid v Barcelona (3rd May), the second Man Utd v Schalke (4th May) and the Final at Wembley on 28th May. Don’t worry if you have a shocker in El Clásico – only your best score from any of the three games will be counted in your battle to be AFR’s football Nostradamus.
