On Monday, the leaders of the Republic of Ireland’s five main political parties stood at lecterns in a garish South Dublin studio, addressing the nation in the build up to February 25th’s General Election. Fianna Fáil’s Micheál Martin, Fine Gael’s Enda Kenny, Labour’s Eamon Gilmore, The Green Party’s John Gormley and Sinn Féin’s Gerry Adams duked it out over policy issues, past failures and future promises. As with any pre-election debate, much of the discussion centred around that most important commodity - money.
