These days, it isn’t easy being Karim Benzema. He came with plenty of hype and pomp, but his career at Real Madrid has hit a bit of a snag. Costing a staggering €35m (by the general standard), in his two seasons at the Spanish capital, he has played 65 games and scored 20 times. In any other club, given his age (he’s only 23) and his level of experience, his progress would’ve fallen only a little short of remarkable. At a club like Real Madrid, with its unlimited spending power and a natural ability to attract talent from all corners of the globe, Benzema might soon become a liability. Especially since the Whites have a knack of getting rid of even on-form strikers, for more shirt-selling and well known personalities. Fernando Morientes, anyone?
