While England are sitting pretty under the reigns of Fabio Capello, they can finish off a perfect World Cup qualifying campaign with a victory over newfound rivals Croatia.

While England defeated Croatia 4-1 earlier in the campaign, the last time Croatia went to Wembley they beat Steve McClaren’s England side, preventing England from reaching Euro 2008.

However, Fabio Capello said that the past results will have no influence on Wednesday’s match.

“The 4-1 is history,” added Capello. “It’s a very important game we have tomorrow.

"We have played a lot of very important games and have won seven games. We have improved with every game.”

“I prefer to look at the next game. I do not speak about a game that they played two years ago. I have to motivate the players for tomorrow, not what happened two years ago.

"They will go into this game thinking about how we won in Croatia.”

“We have to win one or draw some. But the most important thing is to arrive first in the group to get to the World Cup.

"We are playing well at Wembley, have won all the games and play with confidence. I am sure that will be the same tomorrow.”

John Terry has also admitted that the match at Wembley will be his biggest as England captain.

Asked whether it was his biggest game as captain, he said: “I think so. I think when it comes down to it, it’ll be ideal to finish the group early.

"Possibly for the future and the games we have left, if we can finish the game tomorrow night it will give the manager the chance to maybe try a few things, try new players, and try formations or whatever he might want to do. If we can finish the job tomorrow it will be the ideal situation.”

“We’ve gone there (to Croatia) and put in a very good performance and got a great win over there, it would just be nice for the fans and for ourselves to finish the job at Wembley where we threw it away before,” Terry said.

“Hopefully we can concentrate on the right things and that will be on the football field tomorrow night.”
