Thierry Henry is a competitive person, and for him failing to reach the world cup should not be a possibility for his world-class French squad.
Henry has launched a surprisingly, but seemingly necessary attack on France coach Raymond Domenech, saying that the team is “bored” in training and is lost on the pitch with “no style” or “guidelines”.
The Barcelona striker, who is France’s record goalscorer with 49 goals in 112 appearances, unleashed his words at the national team’s training camp last Friday, the day before France tied Romania 1-1 in Paris.
“Coach, we have something to tell you, I am speaking in the name of the squad,” he told Le Parisien newspaper. “We are getting bored during your training sessions. In 12 years with the French team, I have never been in such a situation.
"We do not know how to play, where to be on the pitch, how to organise. We do not know what to do. We have no style, no guidelines. It is not working.”
Henry was chosen to face Romania the following day of when he made these comments, and put his side ahead only for France to be shot backwards by a Julien Escude own goal. The former Arsenal captain then missed several chances including one effort which came back off the bar.
The 1-1 draw with Romania leaves Domenech’s side trailing Serbia, their Group Seven opponents on Wednesday night, by four points and looking destined for the World Cup playoffs rather than automatic qualification.
Coming from Henry the comments are a serious blow to the authority of Domenech, who has enjoyed the full support of the French Football Federation despite tumbling out of Euro 2008 at the group stage.
France are in a serious situation where it could very well miss out on the World Cup, and Les Bleus must find a way to exploit their talents.
