Scotland continues to pursue World Cup play-off with victory over Macedonia

Scotland are still in contention of a World Cup play-off spot despite a less than perfect display against Macedonia.
After a truly disappointing first half, the Scots showed purpose and were rewarded as Scott Brown headed home a well-executed Steven Fletcher cross.
James McFadden doubled the lead with a spectacular individual goal, going around the keeper with a cool finish after a wonderful 50 yard run.
50,214 were at Hampden Park to see the Scots stay in second place in Group 9, just behind the Netherlands. Now Scotland must face the difficult task of defeating the Netherlands, who casually defeated Japan 3-0 in a friendly this afternoon, to guarantee a second place finish, which secures a play-off place for next year’s World Cup finals in South Africa.
