Real Madrid have agreed to sell former Chelsea winger Arjen Robben to Bayern Munich for a reported £22m.
It is correct that we are interested in signing Arjen Robben,“ General manager Uli Hoeness said Thursday.
"He will undergo medical checks tonight or tomorrow morning,” Hoeness said, adding that the two sides were in agreement on “most points.”
Hoeness said Robben could even make his debut on Saturday against defending champion Wolfsburg.
“Under the best scenario, he could be on the transfer list tomorrow and theoretically he could play Saturday,” Hoeness said.
Bayern’s general manager added: “He’s one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe. He’s always been one of the players we wanted.
"Our intention is to have Robben play on the right and Franck Ribery on the left. If it all goes perfectly and without any hitches, it would be theoretically possible for him to play on Saturday.”
Spanish National Radio said Robben flew to Munich on Thursday to seal the deal. At Madrid airport he told reporters he’d prefer to stay with the Spanish club.
“I didn’t want to go,” Robben said. “It’s all I can say to the fans. But the club wanted to sell me and well (there’s been) a lot of lies and in the end I also have to decide for myself because I also want to play.”
The 25-year-old had been linked with a move away from the Bernabeu since the arrivals of Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka, with Tottenham reportedly interested.
