Liverpool put four past Stoke City at Anfield

Liverpool were victorious for the first time this season, demolishing Stoke City 4-0 at Anfield.
Fernando Torres opened the scoring in the 4th minute. The Spaniard latched onto Steven Gerrard’s cross and then slotted it past Thomas Sorensen. Seconds before half-time Liverpool won a corner and Steven Gerrard’s service met the head of Dirk Kuyt but Sorensen was able to parry the Dutchman’s effort away from goal, but Glen Johnson reacted with a acrobatic volley putting his side 2-0 up going into the half.
In the 78th minute Gerrard broke through the Stoke back line before finding the feet of Kuyt who tapped the ball in for Reds’ third goal of the match, putting the game out of reach for the visitors.
Just before the final whistle Liverpool’s attack minded right-back Glen Johnson made a great run down the flank. The England international’s deflected cross met the head of substitute David N’Gog who converted from close range, sending the away side back down the M6 with a convincing 4-0 defeat.
