Cristiano vs Lionel, La Liga’s greatest individual battle!
Cristiano vs Lionel, La Liga’s greatest individual battle!

By Dominic Vieira, writing from Lancaster
It’s a struggle to talk about the 2010/11 La Liga without referring to Barcelona or Real Madrid who are dominating the league by a clear mile. It’s even harder not to discuss the master tactics of coaching wizards Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola, now imagine how painful it is excluding Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo from that conversation? It’s impossible. Those two players are the best in the world and are fighting out football’s most intensive individual battle; the current score is Ronaldo 32 - Messi 31.
The two forwards aim to lift titles this season and have both underlined that as their main goal in several interviews, but when we’re dealing with player’s of this quality the individual awards are also important. The contest to win the ‘Pichichi’, Spain’s trophy for the league’s top goalscorer, is a two way horse race between these two supreme athletes. The real beauty about the challenge is that the pair are scoring at a phenomenal rate, they’ll strike the back of the net in almost every match and it’s quite possible that the goal record in Spain will be smashed. I haven’t even started writing about the quality of the goals yet!
