Slaven Bilic: the Bob Dylan of Euro 2012.

Bob Dylan has won Grammys, Oscars, and Golden Globes, but he’s never led his country to a third place finish in the World Cup has he? 1998 was perhaps Bilic’s most glorious summer, but Croatia’s three matches at Euro 2012 were certainly nothing to be ashamed of. Arguably outplaying Spain as they strived for qualification into the knockout stage, Bilic’s squad was one of the most delightful to watch throughout the group stage. Football is about the margins sometimes, and this time the margins did not help Croatia at all. But whether it was his winter hat or his “lawyer running on an hour of sleep” look, we’re going to miss the distinct ruggedness this guy brought to such a refined tournament.

Oh, and there’s this. We dug deep into our archives and found Bilic performing “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door”. We’ll miss our beloved Bob Dylan-singing Croatian in the knockout stages, and we wish him the best of luck as he moves on to FC Lokomotiv Moscow, where the hat will surely live on.
