La Mano de Dios’ by 3NIL.

22 June 1986 was a day that will forever be remembered by the football world.

It was the day Diego Armando Maradona broke English hearts at the World Cup in two incredible moments. One moment was the greatest individual World Cup goal of all time, a slalom run from halfway that only Maradona himself could do.

The other moment is the infamous ‘Hand of God’. After England’s Steve Hodge miscues a clearance its a one on one battle between Maradona and the goalkeeper Peter Shilton for the ball. Everyone expected the giant Englishman to win and claim it but up jumped little Diego who clearly punches the ball over the keeper and into the net. Maradona wheeled away in celebration and the ref was conned.

At the post-game press conference, Maradona claimed that the goal was scored “un poco con la cabeza de Maradona y otro poco con la mano de Dios” (“a little with the head of Maradona and a little with the hand of God”). Bobby Robson claimed it was the ‘hand of a rascal’.

Some think it is a moment of horrible cheating. Some think of it as pure genius. We know how important it is in the history of the beautiful game. It is also the first design from 3NIL to honour ‘El Diego’.

La Mano de Dios, get it here.
